European pilot project for the Environmental footprint of T-shirts
The European Commission has selected the “T-shirts” pilot, accompanied by Cycleco, to test the environmental footprint of textile products.
In May 2013, 90 projects have been submitted to the European Commission, including 16 textile projects. 14 projects were selected including only one for the textile products. The objective of the three-year testing period is to show how it is possible to quantify and communicate about the environmental footprint of products in Europe.
To carry out the “T-shirts” pilot, officially launched on November 4th, several companies of very different sizes and involved at different stages of life cycle of textile products got together: Promod, Décathlon, Devernois and Teintures et Apprêts Danjoux (TAD). The Federal Office for the Environment in Switzerland (FOEN) and the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (MEDDE) are part of the consortium. In this context, Cycleco supports companies and manages the project.
For the companies interested in the project, it is still possible to join the consortium. Companies may also be involved as stakeholders in the consultation phases planned throughout the pilot.
Thanks to dialogues, specificities and motivation of the different partners, the European environmental footprint project for textile products will be an exemplary project for the entire industry.
