I3E: integrating environmental, energy efficiency and economic criteria during the renovation projects
I3E is a project that aims to integrate environmental, energy efficiency and economic criteria during the design phase of renovation and rehabilitation construction projects.
This project was launched end of 2014. It is co-financed by ADEME and handled by Cycleco and Enertech which have three years to develop an easy to use assessment method of environmental, energy efficiency and economic criteria for construction project managers and contractors. For this project to be successful, it is essential to elaborate a method which takes into account all issues raised before the design phase, the duration and the available resources.
Three steps project:
During the first year of the project, two cases of renovation constructions will be studied, using the life cycle assessment method. This study will make it possible to put in place the first models for the assessment of environmental, energy efficiency and economic indicators. These will be integrated into a temporary method.
During the second part of the project, the temporary method will be tested by five to ten project teams so as to validate or question it.
During the last phase of the project, the test’s results will be released and the final method will be provided for a broad use by the building-industry professionals.
The project’s monitoring committee:
The monitoring committee is made of the key construction environmental assessment players. Their role is to:
- Convey information on the projects and the existing complementary actions to the team so that it can learn from them
- Make modifications and comments on the choices made and the direction taken
- Alert the team in case decisions are contrary to the policy conducted elsewhere.
